How Do I find a good Repair Shop?
While most vehicle repair shops are owned and run by honest, hardworking people there are a few companies out there that will take all of your money and then some. Here are a few tips on how to find a good repair shop and getting getting your money’s worth:
1. check with your family, friends or coworkers to see where they are taking their cars for service or repairs.
2.If you do not have a referral from someone you trust you can check any shop with the Better Business Bureau, or check on sites like www.yelp.com for any reviews.
3. Ask the shop owner for references and follow up on them.
4. get a quote before you authorize any work.
5. Request that all parts that were replaced be given back to you for inspection.
6. Make sure the service technicians are ASE certified.
7. Once you have found a repair shop you are happy with stay with it and refer your friends.
Most shops advertise by word of mouth and satisfied customers are their best advertisement. It is a nice way to thank your repairmen by recommending them to others. You will be doing your friends a favor, too. The best repair shops are not the most expensive ones, nor are the cheapest necessarily the worst. They just have to offer value for money and be honest. A shop charging $300 for labour on a job that another facitlity charges $500 on might get rich on selling you parts that you do not need. www.angieslist.com (subscription-based), or www.yelp.com might provide a start on finding the right auto service and repair facility in your area (no, we are not affiliated with Angie’s List or yelp nor do we receive any compensation.)
I do not claim this list to be complete, so feel free to add on to it in the comment section.
